Since the early humans first observed the elegance of flying birds they have dreamed of mastering that ability. Da Vinci's hundreds of journal entries on human and avian flight in the 1480's suggest he longed to soar through the air like a bird. Incorporated in this print is his drawing of engineered wing construction. The Hindenburg zeppelin was meant to float silently in the air like a balloon but exploded and crashed in 1937.
